BANGALORE: The main issue at Yeshwantpur Ward is that Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities are yet to implement their action plans to mitigate monsoon-related problems at a few localities. Light showers are enough to inundate houses in low-lying areas, especially at L N Colony. “We have been requesting the BBMP to do something. The rain water enters our homes during the monsoon season. We have to be awake throughout the night. We have faced a lot of problems and have also lost many valuable things to rain water. We hope BBMP takes adequate action to mitigate our problems,’’ said Padmamma Kenchappa, a resident of L N Colony. There is nothing to revel about the condition of drains at various localities. Most drains are blocked with silt and debris. “The silt is causing inconvenience,’’ said Nafeeza, a housewife.Clearing of garbage is another issue at various localities. The residents complain that civic workers are not clearing the garbage on a regular basis. “The civic workers are expected to collect the garbage from the door steps of each house but they fail to do their duty. The result is that people dump the garbage at street corners and junctions. I hope the BBMP authorities ensure clearing of garbage on a regular basis,’’ said K S Ashwathnagarayan, a resident of L N Colony. While thanking the Corporator Munirathna for taking the initiative to lay water pipes, the residents say that he has to ensure water supply too. “What is the use of laying water pipes without supplying water,’’ asks a resident on condition of anonymity. Meanwhile, an Assistant Executive Engineer, Yeshwantpur division, BBMP, said that efforts were being made to ensure sufficient water supply. “A water sump is being constructed near the railway station. Currently, the work is under progress. It will help supply water to several areas in Yeshwantpur Ward,’’ said Assistant Executive Engineer of BBMP. The BBMP had taken up development works at the cost of `3.20 crore in the year 2011-12. “The BBMP has taken up strengthening of drains and water supply at various localities. Most drain works are in progress,’’ said the Engineer. Around 20 borewells were sanctioned for Yeshwantpur Ward but, of these, only 12 borewells were dug last year. Meanwhile, Corporator Munirathna was not available for comment.
