KOCHI: Two robbers decamped with 30 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 70,000 from a house located at DH Road, threatening to kill the woman of the house, here on Sunday. The incident occurred at 6.55 am when the housewife, Nirmala, 71, went to the temple. She is the wife of the late Iswar Lal, a business man in the city, residing at Iswar Nivas. Nirmala lives alone in the house as her son is working in Ahmedabad. She has been running a steel utensils shop near MG Road for the past several years. When Nirmala returned from the temple, she found that someone had broke open the locks of the door. Before she could alert the neighbours, the intruders got hold of her and threatened to kill by pointing a knife. They demanded money and jewellery from her, including the ones she wore, and left the house with the lot. Subsequently, Nirmala narrated the whole incident to her son over phone. Her son alerted the neighbours and relatives, who later reported the theft to the Central police. Soon, a team of police led by Central SI, Anthalal along with finger print experts and the dog squad reached the spot. The police officials said that the burglary was suspected to be carried out by two persons who had been watching the movements of the woman for many days. Nirmala submitted before the police that she was familiar with one of them as he had approached her many a time seeking a job in the house. The police will prepare a sketch of the suspects with the help of the woman. The police officials said that the probe into the incident is on and the suspected person will be in the net soon. The police also pointed out that a similar burglary attempt was made at the Nirmala’s shop two months ago.
