Follow us:WhatsappFacebookTwitterTelegram.cls-1{fill:#4d4d4d;}.cls-2{fill:#fff;}Google NewsIn a major breakthrough in the Karipur runway widening scam running to the tune of Rs 50 lakh, the CBI has unearthed the involvement of three more officials of the New Delhi-based B R Arora Associates, which had undertaken the work.According to investigating officer J R D’Cruz, three more persons - former project in-charge Diberendra Singh, former senior engineer Raman Sharma and former company project manager K V Jayakumar - are involved in the case.The CBI has found that officials in the Karipur office of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) hatched a conspiracy with the Arora staff to cheat the government by preparing and producing forged invoices of the IOC, Cochin, showing a supply of bitumen to Arora Associates.The company prepared false invoices of the IOC and submitted them to the Airports Authority, along with bills for strengthening the runway. “Completely aware of the forged nature of the invoices, the airport officials made stock entries of bitumen and falsely showed the issue of bitumen for the work,” the CBI sources said.The airport officials further passed the bills, and payment was released, which caused a wrongful loss to the tune of `53,06,578 to the Union Government.“As many as 26 forged invoices of IOC, Manali, and 11 invoices of IOC, Cochin, were submitted to the AAI office in Karipur, for about 504 MT of bitumen amounting to approximately `1.8 crore,” the CBI sources said.On Wednesday, the CBI arrested B R Arora and M P Madhu Nair, directors of Arora Associates, in connection with the case. “This is the first arrest of the accused. In the preliminary investigation, the CBI found that there were nine accused in the case, including the duo. A couple of airport officials are likely to be arrested soon,” the sources said. The CBI is also trying to seize the computer used for preparing the forged invoices.According to the CBI, Arora Associates is a leading construction company in New Delhi, and the two arrested are also involved in the Varanasi Airport runway widening scam.
