KOCHI: The CBI will file a supplementary chargesheet in the Sampath murder case before the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate court by the end of June. In a new development, CBI sources revealed that the IPS officers named in the case might not be included in the new chargesheet.The case was investigated by CBI ASP Haridath, who committed suicide last month. The case was later handed over to ASP S Jayakumar.“The first chargesheet regarding the investigation has already been filed before the CJM court. The supplementary chargesheet will be filed before the last week of June. The probe was in the final stage when Haridath allegedly committed suicide. The team had submitted 26 status reports before the High Court. Haridath had prepared the chargesheet before his death and the new team will not have to conduct further investigation in the case. The draft of the chargesheet has been put before the CBI headquarters for its final approval,” said highly placed CBI officials.According to CBI sources, the IPS officers are unlikely to be included in the case. “The IPS officers, B S Mohammed Yasin, the then Range IG, Thrissur, and Vijay Sakhare, the then SP, Palakkad, would not be included in the supplementary chargesheet. “But the CBI is still examining the role played by these officers in the custodial death. It was alleged that the two had a hand in manipulating the records. A decision would be taken after looking into the statements and evidence,” sources said.The CJM court had earlier issued arrest warrants against the two, but the CBI had returned it saying that there was no need to arrest them. The CBI had earlier filed preliminary chargesheet against four police officials - DySP C K Ramachandran Nair, Sub-Inspectors T U Unnikrishnan and Ramesh and Civil Police Officer Shyama Prasad. Binu Ittoop, Nair’s friend, is the fifth accused. Except Nair, others are charged with murder offence.
