Paris: Sania Mirza and her partner Elena Vesnina continued their good work at the 2011 French Open by knocking out top seeds Gisela Dulko of Argentina and Flavia Pennetta of Italy to enter the women's doubles semi-finals on Monday.
The seventh seeded Indo-Russian pair won their quarter final clash in straight sets 6-0, 7-5 and await the winner of the match between Liezel Huber/Lisa Raymond and Victoria Azarenka/Maria Kirilenko.
Earlier on Sunday, Sania and Elena defeated the Spanish pair of Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-1, 6-4 to qualify for the women's doubles quarterfinals.
This is the first time that Sania has reached the women's doubles semifinals in a Grand Slam event.
The quarter-final appearances in the 2007 US Open and 2008 Wimbledon were her best performances so far at the big stage.
