THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘Deivathinte Noolpavakal’, a short film on cancer made by a group of college students, will be screened at Kalabhavan theatre on Tuesday at 10.30 am. The film is scripted and directed by Arun A R, a first year visual communication student at Mar Ivanios College. The film has been produced by the combined effort of the students who hail from various parts of the state. The five students had met during a film camp held in the capital a few months back and the production cost of the film was met by the students themselves with the money they had collected by doing various jobs. The short film is about a cancer-afflicted child and the efforts of his handicapped father to raise the sum for the operation of his child. The lead characters are played by Kailaseshwar and the serial actor Valiyasala Ramesh. The film will also mark the debut of another actor from the family of the famous actor Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair in the form of Kailaseshwar, who dons the role of the cancer-afflicted child. The director of the film Arun says that it was one of his visits to the Regional Cancer Centre along with his friend that inspired him to come up with a film on cancer. ‘’I was deeply moved by the pain of the children suffering from cancer and, more importantly, the desperation and helplessness of their parents to find huge sums of money for the treatment,’’ says Arun. The cinematography of the film has been done by Kalliyoor Jayachandran.
