The father of the deceased doctor in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-death case on Friday, said that it is a matter of concern that how despite being placed on OPD duty nobody looked for his daughter from 3 am to 10 am on that day.
While speaking to the media, the deceased doctor’s father said, “My daughter left for duty at around 8:10 am on that day and last spoke to her mother at around 11:15 PM. In the morning when my wife was calling her, her phone was ringing but no one picked up, by that time my daughter died. The matter of concern is that from 3 AM to 10 AM, nobody needed her, despite she was an on-duty doctor.”
A week has passed since the horrific incident and only one person has been arrested in connection to the crime. Currently, protests continue across the country over the rape-murder incident. Protesters, including doctors and medical students, are demanding arrest of all culprits with evidence.
The victim’s father also expressed his support towards all the protesting students who have taken to the streets in condemnation of the horrific rape case. He said, “All the people who are protesting on the streets are like my sons and daughters. My daughter has passed away but crores of children are standing with me now…She had to face some problems in college, the entire department was a suspect… All those who are protesting, we are with them.”
He further said that he spoke to the officials of CBI on Thursday but he cannot say anything else as the matter is currently ‘subjudice’.
Meanwhile, a two-member inquiry committee from the National Commission for Women (NCW) investigated the case and the committee’s preliminary findings revealed significant lapses in security, infrastructure, and the ongoing investigation.
The NCW in a statement said the site where the deceased was allegedly raped and murdered is undergoing sudden renovations, potentially leading to tampering with evidence.
The Committee also found that no security guards were present during the incident, and there was insufficient security coverage for on-call duty interns, doctors, and nurses during night shifts.
