CHENNAI: In a New Year bonanza, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday announced Pongal bonus for State government employees and pensioners which would entail an expenditure of `264 crore to the State exchequer.According to an official release, employees in ‘C’ and ‘D’ groups will get a bonus equal to 30 days salary with an upper limit of `3,000. Those under categories ‘A’ and ‘B’ will get a special bonus of `1,000. Pensioners, family pensioners, former village-level officials like Thalayaris and Karnams will get `500 as Pongal gift.A special bonus of `1,000 will be given to employees under various categories, including full and part-time workers who had worked for a minimum of 240 days in the financial year, anganwadi and mini anganwadi workers, village and panchayat assistants, workers for people’s welfare, contract workers and temporary assistants under contract.Employees with the local bodies, teaching and non-teaching staffers with State-aided educational institutions, those coming under UGC, AICTE, ICAR scales of pay and all India service rules were also eligible for the bonus, the release issued by the Chief Minister’s office added.
