BHUBANESWAR: Little did a 19-year-old engineering student know that he would walk into the clutches of a professional abduction gang of Jharkhand when he reciprocated the friendship offer of a young woman. Two weeks after he was abducted, Bisu (not real name), student of a City-based private university, has been ‘rescued’ from Ambikapur along Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand border. The Commissionerate Police’s six squads, which fanned out to different parts of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in search of the boy, have reunited him with his family belonging to Bhadrasahi of Keonjhar district. Bisu’s father is into mineral transport business and politically connected in Jharkhand. The family had a nightmarish time after Bisu went out of the City on January 9 and a ` 10-crore ransom call was made a day later. Preliminary investigation revealed that the boy had boarded a flight to Kolkata with the girl and then to Ranchi from where he became untraceable. Although the case fell under the ambit of Ranchi Police, a case was registered at Chandrasekharpur Police Station in the City and teams were sent out to Delhi, Varanasi, Jharkhand and Bihar. The SPs of Hazaribag, Ranchi and Daltonganj were intimated about the incident and a manhunt was mounted. During the investigation, the police stumbled upon a gang that operated with clinical precision from Jharkhand although its main operatives may have belonged to Bihar. The girl, with whom Bisu left the City, was tentatively identified as Sanjana belonging to Delhi. Police found out that she worked as a ‘delivery agent’ for the gang. “Her brief was specific __ to lure the boy, take him and deliver at a point. And she was handsomely paid after the ‘consignment’ was delivered. She just had a code name,” said police sources. The City Police, which managed to unlock the chain of command of the gang, could find out that the girl used fake IDs. The CCTV footages of her and Bisu were also collected by police from airports. Investigation revealed that a day after the engineering student reached Ranchi, the young woman asked him to meet his father at a farmhouse on the outskirts of Ranchi. On the way, he was drugged along NH-2 near Bambra and taken to a secret place. Thereafter the ransom calls were made. Meanwhile, police team raided Dhanbad, Mugalsarai, Bokaro, Ranchi, Hazaribag, Daltonganj, Channa and Kolkata. With the pressure mounting, the boy was released. Sources revealed that the victim led an extremely lavish lifestyle in the City where he took a house on rent to pursue his education. He had spent close to ` 5 lakh in three months. He came in contact with the girl during last week of December.
