Swine flu has claimed nine more lives in Gujarat on Saturday, taking the death toll to 256 since January this year, an official release said.

Ahmedabad: Swine flu has claimed nine more lives in Gujarat on Saturday, taking the death toll to 256 since January this year, an official release said.

Apart from these fatalities, 206 new swine flu cases were recorded across the state on Saturday, taking the total number of cases to 4,368 so far, it said.

"Gujarat registered nine deaths today due to swine flu infection, while 206 new cases have been recorded today," the statement said. Out of these nine swine flu deaths, three fatalities were reported from Ahmedabad, while one death each from Surat, Vadodara, Gandhinagar, Kutch, Anand and Banaskantha districts, it said.

The Gujarat government also claimed that 2,904 patients have been cured till date. Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor, who was in Rajkot district for the shoot of her upcoming film, has also been infected with swine flu and was on Saturday admitted in a private hospital.

The 29-year-old actress is in Ahmedabad to shoot for Rajshri Production's upcoming film 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo', in which she stars opposite Salman Khan.

However, state health commissioner JP Gupta said the actress had mild fever and cold when she arrived in Ahmedabad from Mumbai and she might have contracted the disease in Mumbai itself.
