Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday inaugurated the largest Amma canteen so far in Chennai. The canteen has been opened at the government hospital in Chennai with the aim of providing poor patients nutritious and affordable food. The canteen is a part of the chain of Amma canteens opened across the state to provide affordable food.
The canteen at the government hospital is spread over 5,100 sq ft and can accommodate 300 people at a time. It will follow the pattern of other Amma canteens by selling idlis for a rupee each in the morning, rice preparations for Rs 5 for lunch time and chapattis at Rs 3 per piece for lunch and dinner.
The food franchisees introduced by chief minister J Jayalalithaa including Amma canteens, Amma mineral water and Amma vegetable markets have been a huge hit in the current inflationary market.
