THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: To the rhythmic tune of traditional percussion instruments, the excited bunch of 20 youths from Madhya Pradesh tapped their feet by performing ‘Gayeki Nritya’ to receive Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in front of Kanakakkunnu Palace on Friday.Placing a turban on his head, the Punjabi youth showed their respect towards the Chief Minister, when he arrived to inaugurate ‘Jagaran Bharat’, a youth camp organised by the Kerala State Youth Welfare Board. As he entered the palace, a team of youngsters from Punjab and West Bengal followed him up to the dais by performing ‘Bhangra’ and ‘Bihu’ dance forms.  Inaugurating the camp, the Chief Minister said: “Youth are the assets of the country. They should maintain discipline and work hard for achieving success in life, for which there are no short-cuts.”There was also a session for youngsters to interact with the Chief Minister. They were so thrilled to speak about the Chief Minister, who devotes 18 hours a day for official purposes.Youngsters from 12 states in the country are taking part in the camp. Representatives from Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Goa, West Bengal, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are participating.“Extensive programmes have been arranged where they will visit various places, starting from Chempazhanthy to Shangumugham. They will also visit Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma at 4.30 pm on Saturday at Levy Hall,” said G V Hari, director of the camp.Many were thrilled on their visit to the capital city of God’s Own Country. Urmila Thakur from Himachal Pradesh has visited Kovalam and said: “The city is awesome and amazing. This is a beautiful place where we see greenery everywhere...”Meanwhile, Ram Narayan Shukla from Madhya Pradesh is all smiles for “participating in a camp that gives a whole new experience and a chance to meet so many people.”The camp will conclude on Sunday.
