THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Pearson Education India and YMCA Thiruvananthapuram Academic Council jointly organised a workshop on ‘Teaching of Indian Economy’ here on Saturday. Noted economist and former chairman of the Fourth State Finance Commission M A Oommen inaugurated the seminar. Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Mani of the Centre for Development Studies here, citing statistics, contested the government’s claim that India will emerge as a global economic power in the days to come. G Karunakaran Pillai, S Narayanan and S K Godwin talked on various topics. ‘The Indian economy since 1991’, a book containing articles by over 30 economists and edited by B A Praksh, president of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Development Studies, was released on the occasion. M K Saralamma, Head of the Department of Economics, University of Kerala, offered felicitations. Joseph Tryble of Pearson Education Foundation welcomed the gathering. YMCA president S G Churchin Ban presided over the function.
