THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Oracle, the third major global IT firm, began its operations from Technopark on Thursday. The company has leased 40,000 square feet of space in Leela Infopark on the campus. The company will function at a temporary office in the Park Centre, Technopark, till the former is fully operational.T Balakrishnan, Additional Chief Secretary for IT & Industries, visited the facility and congratulated the team. Oracle had already done a few campus interviews early this year and identified their resources and about 50 freshers have joined the Technopark office for their training.Oracle, which currently employs about 28,000 IT professionals, has a big presence in Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram is their first venture outside a metro. The IT major has potential to generate huge employment depending on the level of operations which, in turn, will depend on the availability of quality manpower. It was in April this year that an agreement with Technopark and Leela Infopark (located inside Technopark) to lease 40,000 square feet of space to commence their operations by September this year was signed in the presence of V S Achuthanandan, the then Chief Minister of Kerala.MoU with HamariyahTechnopark and Sharjah’s Hamariyah Free Zone Authority (HFZA) signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate collaboration between both IT industries for mutual development and promotion, at Technopark here on Thursday.On the occasion, Technopark CEO, Mervin Alexander said, “The MoU that has been signed today provides opportunities for Technopark firms to reach global customers through this Middle East market. We have to take advantage of this opportunity to utilise it to our best.”
