BANGALORE: Not just silk sarees, information on  ways to test pure silk and tips to take care of silk materials will be available at the annual ‘Silk Mark Expo 2011’ which will be held at the Palace Grounds starting from December 14-19.Announcing the event, T Sivakumar, assistant director (Insp), Central Silk Board and Executive, Silk Mark Organisation of India (SMOI) said, “Keeping the interest of the consumers in mind, this year we are  specifically keeping a stall called ‘theme pavilion,’ where the consumers can themselves check if the silk is pure or not. Besides, the entire silk production process right from its planting, silk worm culture till the weaving will be demonstrated in the event.”“In addition to this, artisans from different states like Ujjain would be demonstrating the art of silk painting,” said Sivakumar. He added, “Our prime intention is to create an opportunity for the weavers, silk producers as well as the consumers to come to a common platform and be benefitted without any middlemen. Like gold, people have certain sentiments attached to silk. They want it in pure form, especially for pujas and marriages.”“When it comes to silk production, India is still importing about 60 per cent of its silk requirement. However, the uneven silk produced in India is on high demand in the West,” said Sivakumar.Speaking about their new ventures, he said, “We are also trying to promote Eri and Muga silks (found only in North Eastern India) across the country. We have come up with silk denims, shoes and sandals, and we are looking for entrepreneurs who can take up its commercialisation.”Apart from varieties of silk sarees and dress materials and other textiles coming from about 15 different Indian states - Benaras, Kanjivaram, Bandhini, Patola, Tussar, Muga,Crepe and Brocaded silks, various other exotic products like photo frames, curtains, bags, wallets, scarfs, upholsteries, furnishings, shoes and sandals made out of silk will be on display at the 114 stalls  in the six-day exhibition.
