The third convocation of the Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science was held here recently.
The guests at the event included K V Thomas, Minister of State of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution; M Narendra, chairman and managing director, Indian Overseas Bank; and Mallika Srinivasan, chairman and CEO, Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE).
Naremdra and Mallika Srinivasan were awarded with Honoris Causa (D Litt) by the institute.
Addressing the gathering, Chancellor Anand Jacob Verghese spoke about the institute’s performance in academics and extracurricular activities every year.
“Last year, 98 per cent of the students were placed in top companies. Also, NASA has been hand-picking eligible candidates,” he noted.
K V Thomas handed over medals to distinction holders in various disciplines as well as M Phil graduates.
He recalled his association with college chairman and founder the late K C G Verghese and congratulated the staff.
M Narendra praised the long-standing relationship with Hindustan University.
“The role of rural people is vital for India to maintain a 9 per cent growth rate and role of students is essential for rural empowerment,” he said.
Mallika Srinivasan hailed the college for its infrastructure and training facilities and urged the students to “pursue a career driven by excellence and out of one’s own choice.”
