Lahore: Days after a five-year-old girl was brutally raped here, three more cases of rape of minor girls have been reported from different parts of Pakistan's Punjab province Tuesday.
An eleven-year-old girl was on Tuesday gangraped in Narowal district, some 80 kilometres from here. Two arrests have been made in the connection.
Similarly, two more girls - aged between five and nine - were also raped in D G Khan and Gujranwala districts.
Meanwhile, police have failed to arrest the prime suspects involved in the brutal gangrape of the five-year-old even after five days of the incident.
A masseur Zafar Iqbal was also arrested the same day from Okara district as he looked similar to the accused who appeared on CCTV footage.
The security guard of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, who had shifted the girl to hospital after picking her up from the nearby greenbelt, was also arrested.
Police, who are being assisted by the intelligence agencies, have yet to get a clue about the culprits.
Crime Investigation Agency Superintendent Police Umer Virk has admitted the failure of the law enforcement agencies in arresting the culprits so far.
"We have not established so far who the real culprits are," he said.
The police have taken more than 50 suspects into custody and released some of them after interrogation.
"We have interrogated over 50 people of Ghausia Colony of Mughalpura where the victim's family resides but have had no success," Virk said.
The victim, the youngest among nine siblings, belongs to a Pashto-speaking family and was playing outside her house on September 12.
She was found lying unconscious with blood stains on her clothes the next morning and was shifted to hospital.
Doctors at Services Hospital have performed two minor procedures on the girl.
"The girl is now stable. Her life is out of danger," Medical Superintendent of Services Hospital Rehana Malik told PTI.
The girl was recovering fast but was unable to speak clearly. Only the parents are allowed to meet her, she said.
According to statistics, the number of rape and gangrape incidents have increased over 20 per cent in the Punjab province this year as compared to the corresponding period last year.
