KARIMNAGAR: Two forest officers suffered injuries after being attacked by teak smugglers in the eastern division forest area in Karimnagar district on Thursday. They are obtaining treatment in Karimnagar hospital.On a tip off, section officer Satyanarayana and beat officer Lakshmi Prasad went to the forests in the small hours and found smugglers taking teakwood logs in six bullock carts towards Warangal district.The duo obstructed the smugglers near Mahabubpalli village under Azamnagar forest range and the smugglers picked up an argument with the officers.As the verbal duel intensified, the smugglers attacked the officers with sticks. The section officer suffered a fracture in one of his hands while the beat officer had an injury on his head.The officers raised an alarm and the villagers rushed to the place. Seeing the people, the smugglers took to their heels.While some smugglers kept arguing with the officers, others took away the bullock carts from the place. However, a scooter and one cell phone were recovered from the place. Mahamuttaram police registered a case. It is suspected that the smugglers belong to Kalvapalli in Warangal district.
