BANGALORE: Bangalore University will step into the new financial year with a total budget of Rs 225 crore. On Saturday, members of the Syndicate approved the budget estimates for the year 2012-13 earmarked for various development activities, totalling up to Rs 24.8 crore.One of the most important allocations has been made towards setting up of Student Grievance and Information Cell (SGIC), computerisation of examinations and implementation of smart cards - all at an estimated cost of Rs 8.5 crore.This amount will also cover the university’s planned activities for the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.Sports activities have also found a significant place in the budget. Close to Rs 5 crore have been earmarked for hostel facilities for sportspersons, multi-gymnasium, sports training and other facilities.The university expects the Department of Youth Services and Sports to pitch in with the amount as service funds, forming a part of the State Government’s budgetary allocation for sports. The Syndicate also approved Rs 10 crore to be allotted for Hostel Management/ Improvement Committee under the chairmanship of C K Jagadish Prasad, with Manasa Nagabhushanam and K B Veda Murthy as members.Furthermore, Rs 50 lakh has been kept aside for the construction of Ramanagaram PG Centre, for which a committee under the chairmanship of C K Jagadish Prasad has been constituted to inspect the construction site.In a bid to help the visually-impaired students through the university’s Braille Centre, the Syndicate has approved Rs 8 lakh, which will include a monthly stipend of Rs 1000.Also, it was approved to pay Rs 1000 every month for girls without siblings.
