New Delhi: The women's singles semi-final line-up of the US Open has been finalised.
Venus Williams will take on Justine Henin while Svetlana Kuznetsova faces Anna Chakvetadze in the other semi-final
American Venus Williams was up against Jelena Jankovic with the Serbian holding the edge having won their last three encounters.
Venus showed a lot of grit and upped her game after losing the first set. The decider went down to the tie-breaker before Venus won the match 4-6, 6-1, 7-6. She will play Justine Henin for a place in the finals.
Henin had earlier defeated Serena Williams 7-6 (3), 6-1 to book her place in the semi-finals.
Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova entered the semi-finals beating her Hungarian opponent Agnes Szavay who was no threat to the fourth seed.
The scoreline read 6-1 after just 26 minutes and though Szavay recovered to win four games in the second round.
Kuznetsova, the winner at the Flushing Meadows in 2004, finally closed out the match 6-1, 6-4 in a little more than an hour.
Svetlana will play another Russian, Anna Chakvetadze, for a place in the semi-finals.
Chakvetadze, too, had no trouble in disposing Shahar Peer to reach her very first Grand Slam semi-finals. Chakvetadze kept her tempo up throughout the match and unsettled Peer's rhythm from the start.
She comfortably won the first set 6-4. Peer put up no resistance in the second winning just a single game.
