New Delhi: In France, big numbers are coming in a record turnout in its presidential elections, as voters choose between socialist Segolene Royal and conservative Nicolas Sarkozy.
The turnout has already crossed 34 per cent, which is the highest for a presidential vote in more than 30 years.
France's 44.5 million voters are faced with a choice between Sarkozy's tough line on immigration, and Royal's promises to raise the minimum wage and create subsidised jobs for young people.
Sarkozy is tipped to win, and more than 3,000 police have been deployed in Paris to prevent any riots if he does.
