KOZHIKODE/PAYYANUR: What is wrong for Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan is right for CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan. They left no one in doubt about this again while commenting on the current issues rocking the state on Friday. While Achuthanandan said in Kozhikode that it was not the policy of the CPM to threaten officials investigating the murder of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan, Pinarayi replied in Payyanur that some police officers were ‘named’ by leaders because they had violated the rules. “If any official violates the law, his name would be announced in public and the police cannot stop this by filing cases against CPM leaders,” he said. According to Achuthanandan, what was needed was that all should cooperate in the investigation so that the real culprits would be brought before law. Referring to the petition filed by CPM Kozhikode district secretary T P Ramakrishnan in the High Court seeking to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the media, V S said filing cases against the media is not a correct step. The media could defend the charges levelled against them, he told mediapersons here. But Pinarayi claimed that it was on the basis of a recent Supreme Court judgment that the party leaders had approached the court.
