After Arvind Kejriwal announced his decision to step down from the Delhi CM’s post, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday apologised to social activist Anna Hazare for the ‘anarchy and corruption’ in the national capital and shared portions of an undated interview of the latter in which the activist purportedly sounded critical of the Delhi excise policy.
Sharing Hazare’s undated interaction with the media, Kiren Rijiju took to his X handle and posted, “We feel sorry for Anna Hazare Ji but more than Anna Ji, it has become a huge liability for the people of Delhi and to some extent, the whole country. We also never thought that anarchy and corruption would be made virtues.”

Anna Hazare, who had previously led an anti-corruption movement with Kejriwal at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, was heard saying, “I had already advised Kejriwal to keep thoughts clean and make sacrifices in life. But he drowned himself in (alleged) liquor corruption.”
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has maintained its stand, denying any involvement of its leaders in any corruption-related activities linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy 2021-22. It was introduced in November 2021 and done away with on September 1, 2022, after coming under CBI scrutiny.
Kejriwal, in his first speech after securing bail from the Supreme Court in the alleged liquor policy scam on Sunday, said that he would resign from the post of the Chief Minister of Delhi within the next two days. He added that until he is acquitted by the court, he will not sit on the CM’s chair.
AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who secured bail in the liquor policy case, also cleared that he would not rejoin the Deputy CM’s post until the public approves his honesty. He said that after two years of legal process, the country’s top court allowed him to continue his work.
“But I will not sit on the chair of Deputy Chief Minister-Education Minister right now. I have also decided that I will go to the public court along with Arvind Kejriwal and ask whether they consider me honest or not,” Sisodia said.
