KOCHI: Despite completion of the repair work of the two motors at the pump house at Perumanoor on Friday, the residents of West Kochi are yet to get water. Locals said that the technical failure at Perumanoor pump house has left them reeling under acute water shortage since last week.According to Fort Kochi resident Padmanabha Maliya, the authorities had promised to supply water to their homes immediately, but are yet to fulfil it. “We were told that the pump was fixed two days ago. However, we have not started receiving water,” he said.The water shortage has hit the Amaravathy region in Fort Kochi, the Parade Ground area, Karivappady and Mattanchery. “In situations like these, the people end up depending hugely on the public taps. However, the quantity of water supplied through taps are very less,” he added.Meanwhile, assistant engineer at the Perumanoor pump house Aji Augustine said, “We face many constraints during such situations. However, we have assured the public that water will reach their homes at the earliest.”
