Image consultant and owner of Mumbai hangout Fashion Bistro, Chhaya Momaya is looking forward to celebrating Diwali in Mumbai this year. "Usually we go on our family vacation during this time," she says.
A regular on Mumbai's social circuit, you would be excused for assuming she would be a fixture on the party scene this festive season, along with her husband Nirmal Momaya, director of the popular pizza chain, Smokin' Joe's.
Chhaya's (in the picture) plans took us by surprise, though. She has been busy packing special treats for her closest friends. And they would find, inside the goody bags, "A tray full of yummy mithai (sweets)."
Dig a little further and she tells you there's plenty of traditional homemade mithai -- laddoos, kaju katlis and barfis -- for her friends.
"I think homemade sweets are healthier than the commercial sweets because you know the ingredients will be good. The sweets I have ordered are made from pure ghee and don't have too much food colouring," she says.
Chhaya plans to decorate her home with lights like she does every year -- even when the family is out of town! "I will also have my favourite marigold flowers all around my house this year and bring out the silverware I had bought during Dhanteras, to deck my dining table," she adds.
Chhaya's teenage son does not believe in bursting crackers. "It is a waste of money," he says. Instead, he wants to buy a few and give them to underprivileged children.

A Diwali Treat For Myself!
Model and television show hostess Aditi Govitrikar is big on traditional Diwali celebrations. Though there is no Diwali party at Aditi's home this year, the actress has already started gearing up for the big festival. "The walls are being washed, the drawers are being cleaned. I plan to decorate my home with diyas (lamps) and lanterns because Diwali is just not complete without lights," she says.
Aditi, who recently participated in the reality show, Khatron Ke Khiladi, admits she loves receiving presents. This year, she has planned to treat herself to her own personal space at home. "I called up an interior designer friend to help me decorate a corner in my house. I love reading, so I am going to have a nice recliner and bookshelf just for me," she says excitedly.
The former Gladrags model will celebrate Diwali along with her children at her parents' home in Panvel, in Navi Mumbai. "My mother will make delicious sweets like she does every year and we will do the Diwali puja in the morning as well as the Laxmi puja in the evening," says Aditi.
Kiara and Zihaan, her children, will burst a few crackers. But Aditi will make sure they are not the noisy kind.
