In the past, Mahaldi Falls came down from a hill with excessive currents.
The main attraction of Mahaldiram is its untouched beauty. The main sources of livelihood for the locals are tea plantations and step cultivation, and recently, tourism has added an extra source of income for the locals. The residents of Mahaldiram mostly cultivate ginger, elaichi and cinchona.

It is located around 22 kilometres from Kurseong, 12 kilometres from Shivkhola, 12 kilometres from Latpanchar, and 7 kilometres from Sittong.
