The route to Mahaldiram is full of dense greenness on both sides of the road. Mahaldiram lies on a hilltop with numerous tea gardens on all sides. The word Mahaldiram is derived from the Lepcha word. In the past, Mahaldi Falls came down from a hill with excessive currents.
The main attraction of Mahaldiram is its untouched beauty. The main sources of livelihood for the locals are tea plantations and step cultivation, and recently, tourism has added an extra source of income for the locals. The residents of Mahaldiram mostly cultivate ginger, elaichi and cinchona.
From Mahaldiram on a day tour, one can visit the nearest local watchable spots like Namthing Pokhri, Mungpoo, Bagora, Chatakpur, Dilaram, and Tiger Hill. One can also take a short walk around the village and get to know about the lives of the local villagers.
How to Reach Mahaldiram:
The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri. From Kolkata, Howrah, and Sealdah, several trains are available that reach up to New Jalpaiguri railway station. The nearest airport is Bagdogra. Mahaldiram is around 70 kilometres from Siliguri or the NJP train station. It is located around 22 kilometres from Kurseong, 12 kilometres from Shivkhola, 12 kilometres from Latpanchar, and 7 kilometres from Sittong.
