Woman, daughter found dead at home

CHENNAI: In a suspected case of suicide, an octogenarian and her mentally-challenged 42-year-old daughter were found dead at Tiruvotriyur on Monday.Sources said, B Palaiammal (86) and her daughter P Jayasundari lived alone in the house on Old Well Street. Her husband, Babu died several years ago, while Jayasundari had been deserted by her husband Philip about five years ago. Palaiammal’s sons, Ranganathan, Kothandan, Sundaram and Raju, looked after the basic needs of the duo.On Monday, Kothandan’s wife Prabhavati brought breakfast for them and found the two women lying motionless on the floor. The family informed the cops, who sent the bodies to Stanley GH. Sources said it to be a case of suicide.Man Cons Elderly Couple of JewelsAn elderly couple was taken for a ride by a conman at Mambalam on Sunday.Sources said, S Kanniamma and her husband Srinivasan, came to the city for Deepavali shopping. They were sitting at a bus stand, when a 30-year-old man accosted them. He told them that he could help them get pension and asked the woman to accompany him to Saidapet. Kanniamma went along with him to Saidapet, where he took her to a photo studio. When he asked her to remove her jewels, claiming that she would not be selected if she was seen with gold in the picture, Kanniamma handed over the jewels to him and entered the studio. On returning, she found that the man had vanished. Police are investigating.
