VELLORE: Vaniyambadi police on Monday exhumed the body of Uma, a 20 year-old woman, following a complaint from the deceased’s father against his son-in-law, suspecting foul play in his daughter’s death. According to police, Uma llage near Vaniyambadi, married Anbu of Kurumbati village 11 months ago. They had often quarreled, since Anbu blamed her for not conceiving. On March 15, he took her to her mother’s house and gave her some medicines, which according to him, were for fertility. Uma became critically ill after taking them.She was rushed to the GH at Vaniyambadi and then referred to Vellore GH. However, she died on the way to hospital. Her family buried her the next day.However, on Sunday, Uma’s father filed a police complaint suspecting foul play. Police exhumed the body in the presence of Tirupattur Sub-Collector Shilpa Prabhakar, who is also the Revenue Divisional Officer.Jewels Worth `6 Lakh Stolen From HouseBurglars struck at a house in Parnishpuram in Katpadi Police Station limits and decamped with 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery worth around `6 lakh. The robbery came to light on Monday morning when the house owner, Lawrence, returned from Vellankani.The police said that the miscreants entered the house through the backyard and left with valuables kept in the bureau. Personnel from Forensic wing lifted finger prints from the house. A case has been registered and special teams have been formed to nab the culprits, said the police.Vellore Corpn Seizes Motors From ResidentsAs many as 10 electric motors installed by house owners to steal water, were seized on Monday during a surprise check by Vellore Corporation officials. A team led by Vellore Corporation Engineer Devakumar and Zone 2 officer Kannan, raided houses in the 23rd ward.
