CHENNAI: Students from over 53 colleges gathered at KCG College of Technology in Karapakkam on Sunday, for the valedictory of the Hindustan Young Leaders Conference (HYLC). Delegates from all over India and also from countries like Dubai, the United States and the United Kingdom, were also present. The three-day conference focused on the world’s different national councils in the present system and how the other world bodies react to them. HYLC’s main motive was to bring out the leadership quality that each individual possesses and also to make them understand where they, as leaders, stand at present.Annie Jacob, Director, KCG College of Technology said, “This conference was organised to make the students empower themselves to become the most effective leaders and be open to all kinds of situations.” Addressing the students, Sheela Rani Chunkath, Additional Chief Secretary/CMD Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation said, “There are four main qualities that each leader needs to possess: focus, strength, networking and good health”. She added that women leaders, in particular, should become more extroverted. As a leader, one should know what the other person requires and seek to give it a personal touch. Moreover, when the leaders age, they should be as young vigorous heroes to lead the world, she said. Gopal Krishna Gandhi, Former Governor of West Bengal said, “Leadership cannot be the final goal of life. More than words, only examples will speak.” He also said that great leaders are not trained as leaders, but it is incidents and responsibility which made them.
