A report carried by the US National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) states that for a long period of time, papaya leaves have been used in Asian countries to get rid of diseases. Papaya leaves are considered a boon in Ayurveda and in many medical practices, these leaves are used as herbal medicine by amalgamating them with conventional medicines.. According to studies, papaya leaves have anti-dengue, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. Research has said that there are some elements in the juice of papaya leaves which can harm the body and so it is recommended to consume it only after consulting a doctor.
Dr Saroj Gautam, Associate Professor of Aligarh Ayurvedic Medical College, UP, told News18 that papaya leaves contain kasaya juice, which can provide relief from many problems of the body. Dengue and viral fever patients are advised to drink papaya leaf extract, but one must bear in mind that it is not considered a substitute for medicine. One must keep having their medicines apart from consuming papaya juice.
It is believed that to alleviate the symptoms of malaria and dengue fever, one should boil papaya leaves and drink their juice. Numerous studies have claimed that papaya leaf extract can be beneficial in rapidly increasing platelet count, as well as white and red blood cells, in dengue patients. Scientists have identified over 50 compounds in papaya leaves that may provide relief from various diseases. These leaves contain glycosides, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, phenolic compounds, amino acids, lipids, carbohydrates, enzymes, vitamins, and minerals. It is important to note that not everyone should consume papaya leaf extract indiscriminately. It is essential to use them only after consulting with a medical expert to ensure safety and appropriateness for your specific health condition.
