1. David Dhawan was born on August 16, 1951 in Agartala. His father was a manager in a bank and was transferred to Kanpur. Post the transfer, he completed his education there. After passing class 12th, he became interested in films and decided to make a career as a filmmaker.
2. David Dhawan started his career as an editor with the film Laadli in 1978. He, however, shifted to direction after the editing of the film Saaransh, directed by Mahesh Bhatt. Anupam Kher played the lead role in this film.
3. His collaboration with the actor Govinda is recalled by many of the viewers as an iconic partnership. They teamed up on a total of 17 comedy films, namely Shola Aur Shabnam (1992), Aankhen (1993) and Raja Babu (1994). Aankhen remains one of the most appreciated films to date.
