Maharaj which recently hit the OTT platforms has been receiving rave reviews from fans and critics. The film starred Junaid Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat in key roles. The latter played the role of a daunting villain in the movie. While Jaideep has earned praises for his portrayal, director Siddharth P Malhotra, revealed that he wasn’t the first choice of the film.

Siddharth recently revealed that, Irrfan Khan was the first choice for the character played by Jaideep. At a recent press conference, the filmmaker shared, “God bless his soul. In our opinion, nobody could play this role but Irrfan Khan,” he said and revealed that it was a lot of pressure for Jaideep, and he kept telling the actor that only he could meet up to Irrfan’s level of performance.

Siddharth further praised Jaideep and added, he’s one of the best actors today in the country. He also revealed how he (Jaideep) was unsure of playing the part. “He was unsure how he would play it,” said the director while adding that they did a narration to explain their take on Maharaj.

News18 Showsha reviwed the film with 3.5 stars and added, “Filmmaker Siddharth P. Malhotra has certainly brought out the best performances from them. His direction is commendable. The film is well-researched. He skillfully captures the essence of the period, creating a visually stunning film that immerses the audience in the 18th and 19th centuries. The cinematography enhances the narrative, with every frame being vibrant and reflecting the era’s authenticity. The film’s pacing is well-maintained, ensuring the story flows smoothly without any lulls. The editing is sharp, keeping the audience engaged throughout the film.”

Speaking of Jaideep’s performance, the review read, “Jaideep Ahlawat never ceases to surprise. You’d be intimated by him. He delivers his part with so much intensity and authenticity. He is simply terrific, as he does not let a single false note creep into his character. He brings in the fear, the menace, and the raw emotion that the role demands.”
