'Gaaliya Padhegi Tereko': Yo Yo Honey Singh Recalls Shah Rukh Khan's Reaction To His Song Chaar Botal Vodka
Yo Yo Honey Singh recently opened up about the backstory behind his hit song Chaar Botal Vodka and Shah Rukh Khan's reaction to it.

Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh recently opened up about the backstory behind his hit song “Chaar Botal Vodka and Shah Rukh Khan. In an interview, he revealed that he wrote the song after actually downing four bottles of vodka with two of his teammates in Australia. The song was born out of anger after members of the Sikh community protested against his performance during a world tour with Shah Rukh Khan. Honey Singh also shared that King Khan had advised him against releasing the track, warning, “ “Gaaliyan padegi tereko (You’ll get criticised for this).”

Reacting to rumours of Shah Rukh Khan slapping him during an interview, he said to The Lallantop, “I can’t answer this here. You’ll hear about it in my documentary on Netflix.” When pressed further, he clarified, “Nothing like that happened.”

Honey Singh shared how he came up with the song Chaar Botal Vodka. “I wrote that song after drinking four bottles of vodka with two other people in Australia. I was on a world tour with Shah Rukh Khan in 2013 after Chennai Express’ release and my community, the Sikh community, started protesting. They weren’t allowing me to perform because they were like, ‘Ye gande gane banata hai (He makes dirty songs. He spoils the culture).’ Shah Rukh Khan told me that, ‘I am with you. If you are not allowed, I won’t do the world tour.’ It’s a big thing for him to even say that.”

Honey Singh explained how the song came about, saying, he eventually went on the tour and performed. “I performed. There were some 25,000-30,000 people cheering for me but there were 500 people outside who were burning my effigies. Those 500 people irritated and hurt me. After the show, my choreographer and the dancer came into my room and we started drinking. We started with one bottle. After drinking two-and-a-half bottles, I started creating the beat of the song. I decided to sing the song in a child’s accent. I thought they are telling me that I am ruining their culture, now I will make sure that I will embed this song in their breed and make sure that every kid sings it.”

When he made Shah Rukh Khan listen to the song, SRK said, “I made Shah Rukh sir listen to the song and he told me, ‘Tu pagal hai, kya gana banaya hai. This will be a flop. Gaaliyan padege tereko (Are you mad? This will be a flop. You will get criticised).’ But I was determined mein toh aise he gaunga (I will sing it as it is).”
