At a press conference held soon after his discharge from the hospital, Govinda recounted the details of the accidental shooting incident that occurred on October 1. “Initially, I couldn’t believe it had happened,” he said. “Thoda gehra lag gaya tha, jab laga tab vishwas nahi hua. Aisa laga ke yeh kya hua? (It is a deep wound, and I couldn’t believe it had happened. I thought, ‘What just occurred?’).”
The actor shared that he was alone at the time of the incident, which took place early in the morning between 4:45-5:00 am as he was getting ready to travel to Kolkata. “I was preparing to leave for the show… for Kolkata. It was around 4:45-5:00 am. Woh giri aur chal padi (the revolver fell and misfired). I felt a jhatka (I was shocked) and then saw… there was a fountain (of blood).”
Govinda explained that he chose to handle the situation on his own, without involving others. “I thought I should not associate this incident with anyone else and trouble them, so I shot some videos and was then rushed to Dr. Agarwal. He came with us and took me to Criti Care hospital,” he said.
When asked why he was in possession of a loaded revolver, Govinda responded, “When we are getting ready in the morning, it feels like whatever you’re doing in haste is right… Main thoda sa mast raha karta hoon (I’m a bit careless/carefree by nature), so I didn’t think anything was wrong. I’m sahaj (easy-going), I didn’t expect something like this to happen. But one should be careful. I hope no one else has to experience this; they can learn from what happened to me.”
Regarding the revolver, Govinda offered a more philosophical explanation, tying it to the nature of fame. “Fame is a flame, and you have to be aware of the flame that surrounds you, all over the world. It’s like fire when you’re successful, and you must tread carefully. When you have many people who love you, there are also some who are jealous—it’s part of spardha (competition). But I would like to clarify that this incident shouldn’t be linked to anyone or anything else. There should be no galatfehmi (misconceptions) surrounding it.”
Finally, Govinda expressed his gratitude for the support he received. “I would like to thank everyone who prayed for me. Thank you.”
Dr Ramesh Agarwal, who treated the actor, confirmed the extent of the injury, stating Govinda received around 8 to 10 stitches.
Meanwhile, local authorities have been conducting a formal investigation into the accident, with the Mumbai crime branch launching a parallel inquiry. As of now, no formal complaint has been filed regarding the incident, according to police.
