The popular fiction franchise ‘Hunger Games’ came to an end with ‘Mockingjay Part 2’. Touted as the best film from the series by director Francis Lawrence himself, the film emerges as a fitting end to the series.
Now if you have read the books and already know the shocking moments, the film surprises with its effects and silence. The sequences entwine perfectly with the thoughts of every character and the emotional instability brings out an end that every fan had hoped for.
Jennifer Lawrence, who has already made Katniss Everdeen memorable in every fan’s mind excels our expectations. There is a certain maturity and a clearer head that Katniss has in this one. The film starts from where it ended in ‘Mockingjay Part1’. With Peeta brainwashed and District 13 all set to invade Capitol for a ‘free Panem’. This time the motive of District 13 is clear but Katniss has her own plans and she knows here “everything is personal”.
With some major deaths the last chapter is grim, dangerous and full of vengeance. Our main character introspects everything and everyone to find the answer of the most important question throughout the series: What is the truth? What is real?
Considered as perfect symbolism of dystopia, the final chapter of Hunger Games ends with hope, life and normalancy, something which is extraordinary in Panem. Full of action and edge of the seat thrill, there are moments that touch your heart as well. The heart wrenching 45 second talk between Katniss and Gale just before the climax kicks in, is one of those.
Another thing that the series subtly carries is war propaganda and manufacturing consent by the government. The way warriors, machineries, media and civilians are used by both, the Capitol and District 13, will leave you wondering about the current state of our very own country along with the power of rightful dissent.
On the technical aspects, the film widely released in 3D scores an A+ again. The graphics and cinematography is brilliant, some new weapons will surely leave you in awe. Although somewhere the storyline seems stretched and the action seems repetitive. After the action one has experienced in ‘Catching Fire’, this one leaves you a little disappointed.
Overall, ‘Mockingjay Part 2’ is all about love, vengeance, courage and dissent. The conclusion leaves you with hope and the diehard fans will shed a tear or two in an otherwise action filled ride.
