Music composer Sushin Shyam has had a significant contribution to Malayalam cinema, composing scores and soundtracks for some very successful films like Kannur Squad, Minnal Murali, Romancham, Manjummel Boys and the most recent, Aavesham. His work on Kumbalangi Nights even earned him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director. Sushin Shyam is currently working on the music for the upcoming film Bougainvillea, which incidentally will be the last film before the composer takes a short sabbatical from work. Sushin Shyam recently announced that Bougainvillea will be his final film project for the year, as he plans to take a short break. “I will start working next year. I want my break to be cool and eventful,” Sushin said at a promotional event for the film held at Kusat.
He added that he has not accepted any more projects for now and will start accepting them next year onwards. The event was attended by the lead actors of the film, including Kunchacko Boban, Srinda, and Jyotirmayi, who all play significant roles in the upcoming project.
One of Sushin Shyam’s compositions for Bougainvillea has already stirred up a controversy prior to the film’s release. A formal complaint has been lodged against the promo song titled Sthuthi from the film. The complaint, filed by Tony Chittilappilly, Secretary of the Syro-Malabar Sabha Almaya, has been submitted to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as well as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Chittilappilly claims that the song distorts Christian beliefs and is offensive to the Christian community. He has called for appropriate action, expressing concerns that the song’s content disrespects religious sentiments.
Bougainvillea is produced by Jyotirmai and Kunchacko Boban under the banner of Amal Neerad Productions and Udaya Pictures. Amal Neerad has scripted the movie along with Lajo Jose, who is famous for his crime thriller novels. Anand C Chandran, who did the cinematography of Bhishma Parvam, is also the cinematographer of Bougainvillea.
