Judging the best in Bollywood is never an easy job. But with the overwhelming support from our readers, we could pick the best performers from the industry, and also acknowledge excellence. From the nominees of 12 coveted categories of News18 Movie Awards 2017, we have decided the winners.

Presenting the complete list of winners of News18 Movie Awards 2017

Best Film – Dangal

Dangal’s win was expected. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal came across as the finest sport sagas in Bollywood. While its box office success explained the huge number of takers it received, the critical acclaim it earned spoke volumes of its content. On the basis of our poll results, Dangal has won the coveted title with whopping 67% votes, way ahead of other nominees.

Best Actor – Aamir Khan (Dangal)

Aamir Khan, who was leading the race in the Best Actor category, won the honour with 52% votes. Even though Dangal stood out because of the compelling performances of the entire team, Aamir Khan grabbed everyone’s attention by laying an aged, bloated Mahavir Singh Phogat, former wrestler and father of four daughters from a small village Belali with conviction. The actor was lauded for his ability to immerse into the character of Mahavir - a tough coach who trains his eldest daughters Geeta and Babita to make it big internationally. Aamir as Mahavir wasn’t just strong-minded, but also self-centered, especially when he doesn’t permit his daughters to enjoy small pleasures, all in his quest for success. We are happy he made the cut.

Best Actress – Alia Bhatt (Udta Punjab)

Alia Bhatt won the hearts of the audience and critics alike with her role as an innocent immigrant who is tormented and tortured by local powerful goons. She won 51% votes from the readers for brilliantly depicting the torturous journey of a poor woman caught in the circle of drugs. Since it was termed the best career performances by a 23-year-old actress, we knew should win the coveted title.

Best Director – Nitesh Tiwari (Dangal)

Nitesh Tiwari who had co-written and directed Dangal and successfully put forth the life of Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters in the most realistic manner, has won with 61% votes. Whether it was the well-shot sequences on the laborious training sessions of the girls, or the humorous yet hard-hitting tittering from a prejudiced patriarchal society, the tussle with sports authorities, or the exciting bouts, Tiwari presented it all with perfection.

Best Debut Male - Diljit Dosanjh (Udta Punjab)

Punjab industry’s biggest star Diljit Dosanjh made his Bollywood debut in Abhishek Chaubey’s dark and gritty Udta Punjab. Playing the role of a cop intertwined in the drug circuit of the state, Dosanjh won the hearts of audience and critic alike with his sincere act. The restrained acting just proved the potential of Dosanjh as a serious actor. He has won with 64% votes.

Best Debut Female – Fatima Sana Shaikh (Dangal)

One of the most powerful performances of the year, Fatima Sana Sheikh essayed the role of Geeta Phogat in Dangal. Playing the role of Aamir Khan’s daughter, Fatima was raw, honest, refreshing, and successful to collect 53% votes.

Best Supporting Actor – Randeep Hooda (Sarbjit)

Trust Randeep Hooda to go to any length when it comes to playing a character to the perfection. Hooda created a stir when he went anorexic to play the part of Sarbjit in the biopic. The prisoner of Pakistan who died while serving his term, was depicted by Hooda with full conviction. The gut wrenching torture and his mental state as a prisoner was honest and heart-wrenching, and that's why he remained ahead of others. Even though he got tough competition from Rishi Kapoor and Fawad Khan (both for Kapoor & Sons), he emerged winner with 35 % votes.

Best Supporting Actress – Zaira Wasim (Dangal)

While we continue to extol Nitesh Tiwari for the way he presented the story of unlikely champions, we can’t ignore the film’s actual standout – Zaira Wasim. She played the young Geeta Phogat with fierceness and conviction. She has emerged winner with 56% votes.

Best Music – Pritam (Ae Dil hai Mushkil)

Since the movie marked Karan Johar's return to direction after four years in the romantic drama genre, expectations were high. Music undoubtedly played a key role in the film. Pritam and Amitabh Bhattacharya, who have given several hits, gave yet another hit album. We are happy to announce that Pritam who has collected 58% votes has won the Best Music category.

Best Singer (Male) – Atif Aslam (Tere Sang Yaara – Rustam)

Another romantic track of 2016, Atif Aslam wooed the audience with his distinctive voice and even wooed the votes with the whopping 60% share. Tere Sang Yaara is a beautiful song that narrates the love story of the lead pair, Rustom Pavri and his wife.

Best Singer (Female) - Palak Muchhal (Kaun Tujhe – MS Dhoni – The Untold Story)

Singer Palak Muchhal is quite evidently on a roll. Her song Kaun Tujhe from MS Dhoni: The Untold Story not only got several takers, but also earned her adulation from prominent names from the industry. Her fans have a reason to rejoice - she has amassed 39% votes.

Best Lyricist – Amitabh Bhattacharya (Channa Mereya – Ae Dil Hai Mushkil)

Amitabh Bhattacharya brought the plight of a father-daughter feud in Naina. The emotional track stays with you because of the words and pain in them, and the highest votes - 39 % too stays with him.
