Poonam Pandey has passed away. Her team confirmed the news with News18. “She passed away last night,” her team said. The news of her death was first revealed in a post shared on her official Instagram handle. “This morning is a tough one for us. Deeply saddened to inform you that we have lost our beloved Poonam to cervical cancer. Every living form that ever came in contact with her was met with pure love and kindness. In this time of grief, we would request for privacy while we remember her fondly for all that we shared,” the post read.
The news has left everyone in shock. Bigg Bos 15 contestant Karan Kundrra, who featured as the jailor for the reality show Lock Upp: Badass Jail Atyaachaari Khel, in which Poonam was a contestant, couldn’t believe when he heard of her untimely demise. Talking to Times Now, Karan said, “Oh my god! I have no idea about this. How did it happen? It is very sad and heartbreaking news.”
Poonam Pandey was a popular model. Her popularity skyrocketed to fame when she had promised in a video message ahead of the 2011 Cricket World Cup final that she would strip if India won the final match. With her audacious claim, this was the first time she drew attention to herself across all social media platforms.
On the work front, Poonam was last seen in the first season of Lock Upp hosted by Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut. Though she did not win the show, she did expand her fan base. The first season of Kangana Ranaut’s Lock Upp was won by stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui. Lock Upp had 14 contestants including Payal Rohatgi, Kaaranvir Bohra, Anjali Arora, Babita Phogat among others.
Poonam was also briefly married to Sam Bombay. The wedding came as a surprise to everyone. They often shared videos and photos on social media platforms. However, the marriage did not last. She accused him of domestic violence immediately after their wedding in 2020.
