Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, known for directing Sridevi in movies like Great Robbery, Govindhaa Govindhaa, and Hairaan, has always openly expressed his love for the actress. Varma had previously said that she was the most desirable woman and the biggest superstar in the country.

However, a recent photograph has stirred controversy around him. The filmmaker is facing accusations of insensitivity towards the late actress. He shared a photo of himself with a woman but morphed her face to resemble Sridevi’s. This photo has upset Sridevi’s fans, who looked at it as disrespectful. He posted the photo on X and captioned it, “I just came to HEAVEN to visit HER.” In the AI-generated photo, RGV sits beside a morphed version of the late Sridevi in a car and smokes a cigarette.

The post is now going viral on Reddit with user dubbing is “disgusting”.

Reportedly, after the success of his first film Siva, Ram Gopal Varma wanted to cast Sridevi in his next movie, Kshana Kshanam, alongside Daggubati Venkatesh. He visited the actress’s home in Chennai with a colleague and producer for a meeting. Recalling this in one of his blogs, Varma had earlier mentioned that his experience of working with Sridevi was inexplicable. He was so impressed by her acting and beauty that he tried to touch her feet out of respect. He also mentioned that his film, Kshana Kshanam, was his way of expressing his love for Sridevi. He had written in the blog, “Kshana Kshanam was my love letter for her.”

Sridevi passed away in February 2018. She was attending Boney Kapoor’s nephew, Arjun Marwah’s wedding in Dubai. Following the ceremony, she died of accidental drowning. Her mortal remains were brought back to Mumbai and she was cremated here. Thousands of fans gathered to pay their last respects to her and Arjun Kapoor along with his sister Anshula Kapoor were by their half-siblings’ Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor’s side when the funeral took place.
