Shah Rukh Khan On Why Humor Is Tricky: 'You Say Something, Somebody Gets Disturbed'
Shah Rukh Khan, known for his sharp wit and box office success, recently shared his thoughts on the challenges of humor in today's world.

Shah Rukh Khan is widely recognized as a superstar with a powerful presence at the box office and a profound influence on modern pop culture. Yet, another aspect that has endeared him to fans is his sharp wit and humor. Despite being known for his quick comebacks, Shah Rukh has recently suggested that it might be wiser to “not have a sense of humour” in today’s world. He shared this perspective during a recent interaction.

While attending the Locarno Film Festival, Shah Rukh appeared on the Locarno Meets podcast, where he opened up about his interest in doing comedy films and the challenges his sense of humor has faced. “I’ll be honest, I think I have an innate sense of humor, and I can make people laugh, but it’s very inappropriate times also. So I try to control myself, I’m told by my team all the time, people don’t understand your humor,” he noted, emphasizing the disconnect between his intentions and how his jokes are received.

He further touched on the evolving sensitivity in society, especially towards humor, and how comedians and jokes are often criticized for being politically incorrect. Shah Rukh remarked, “But now people have become very sensitive. You say something, and everybody, somebody gets disturbed. It’s better to not have a sense of humor.”

During the conversation, he also shared his desire to explore new genres in cinema. After leaving a significant mark in romance and enjoying recent success in action films, Shah Rukh expressed an interest in tackling comedy or even horror next. Reflecting on the challenges of the genre, he admitted, “As an actor, I think comedy is very difficult. I think it’s a very serious business. It’s very difficult. It’s the one that there’s most actors failed. It’s where I have failed.”

Often referred to as the King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan has captivated audiences with a wide range of performances, including his memorable negative roles in films like Baazigar and Darr. In 2023, he delighted fans with the action-packed films Pathaan and Jawan, and showed a lighter side in Dunki. Now, the superstar is gearing up for a darker role in his upcoming film King, where he will take on the character of an assassin.

Journalist Rahul Raut recently reported that Shah Rukh’s character in King will be a deadly assassin. Sharing the news on X, Raut revealed that the action thriller, directed by Sujoy Ghosh and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, is set to start filming by the end of the year. The star-studded cast includes Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Abhay Varma, adding to the excitement around this ambitious project.

In a fascinating twist, Shah Rukh had hinted at his desire to play an assassin during his appearance at the 77th Locarno Film Festival in August 2024. During the event, he joined the Locarno Meets podcast, where he discussed his aspirations for future roles. When asked about the kind of characters he wants to explore, SRK expressed a keen interest in taking on more complex roles. “I am not stereotyped; I am hero type,” he quipped, underscoring his affinity for playing grand, larger-than-life figures.
