Thalapathy Vijay’s Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) released in theatres on September 5 and has been minting money at the box office ever since. As expected from a Thalapathy Vijay film, GOAT has broken several box office records, beating the lifetime collection of Thunivu, the last film of Vijay’s professional rival Ajith Kumar. The hype around the film was all the more due to the fact that it is Thalapathy Vijay’s last film before he quits cinema for a full time political career. Earlier, there were reports that some integral portions of the film were left out at the editing table as it was getting too lengthy. The cut originally envisioned by director Venkat Prabhu had a duration of 3 hours, 40 minutes. For the theatrical release, it was shortened to 3 hours. Now, good news awaits fans who feel they have missed out on more. Venkat Prabhu has revealed that when GOAT makes its OTT debut, the entire director’s cut may be available for streaming. This is what the makers are planning. This means that viewers will be able to watch the entire 3 hours 40 minutes of the film, with many deleted scenes being restored for the OTT version.
GOAT will adhere to the standard 4-week OTT release pattern commonly seen in the Tamil film industry. This means the film will be available for streaming four weeks after its theatrical release. Since it premiered in theatres on September 5, it is expected to be available on OTT platforms by October 3, after completing its 28-day run in theatres. The film will reportedly stream on Netflix, which bought the streaming rights for the film for a substantial amount.
GOAT has grossed Rs 178 crore in India and Rs 125 crore from overseas markets, bringing its total worldwide box office collection to Rs 303 crore. It remains significantly behind Leo’s worldwide gross, which stands at Rs 606 crore.
