Richa Chadha has been basking in the success of her recently released web series Heeramandi. The actress delivered an impactful performance as Lajjo in the series. Despite short screen time, the actress left a signficant impact on her audience. As Lajjo, the actress performed a beautiful dance titled Masoom Dil Hai Mera. The actress recently opened up about the same in an Instagram post.
Sharing the dance video on her Instagram handle, Richa wrote, “Like most of the songs in Heeramandi, Lajjo’s final mujra is like a short film, in that it takes the story ahead. The set was ready, the shoot of the song was pulled up, and it happened to be a mere two weeks before my wedding! Naturally, I was petrified, and I always joke that the heavy, albeit beautiful costume, prepped me for my shaadi in the best way.”
The actress further added, “Like any actor, I wished I had more time on my hands to polish my Kathak. Because this one was going to be challenging… Not only was Lajjo delusional and heartbroken, but she was also drunk. Showing up as a bride to entice her lover one last time… for me, she was always moth to flame. Desperate to be loved, desperate to have his last name and self – destructive when it doesn’t work out. It has always been a dream to work with the master Sudeep Chatterjee.”
On a closing note, she added, “May all actors have the privilege of occupying his frame once in their lives! love you, dada. And love you, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, we share a secret… And a secret it shall remain. In gratitude. I hope you like my work here, poured my life into it.”
Earlier Richa Chadha revealed that she was offered another role in Heeramandi. When I was approached for ‘Heeramandi,’ at the time Sanjay sir was the showrunner, and I had been offered another part, one with more screentime for sure. But because an actor also needs to see what’s in here that’s new for me, I chose Lajjo.”
She added, “I have experimented with characters that have a grey shade, like Bholi Punjaban or Tara in Madam Chief Minister. Basically, I get accused of playing only empowered characters, so i felt the need to break that stereotype and surprise the audience. I wanted to play a part of a hopeless romantic and leave the audience with goosebumps. That’s exactly what’s happening. People are calling me in tears.”
She further revealed, “Hence, when sir told me, come and check this character out, I was immediately drawn to Lajjo. I was certain this would pay off, and it has. The love within 24 hours has been overwhelming. Right from industry peers to filmmakers to friends and audiences have sent me such amazing love, I couldn’t be more grateful.”
Richa’s portrayal of Lajjo in Heeramandi” showcases her versatility and dedication to her craft, earning praise for her nuanced performance that resonates deeply with viewers. Additionally, the character’s Kathak dance sequence in the show holds special significance for Richa, who is a trained Kathak dancer herself.
The Sanjay Leela Bhansali series also stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Shaikh in the lead roles.
