‘Dropped Catches Part of Game’: Harmanpreet Justifies After India Put Down 7 Chances vs AUS – Full List Here
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur defended her teammates for dropping catches in the game which eventually took a massive toll on them

The second women’s ODI between India and Australia witnessed a close battle between the two sides and the visitors managed to cross the finish line and win the series. All-rounder Deepti Sharma led the Indian attack with a five-wicket haul while young wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh anchored the chase of 259 with a career-best 96. But the Australian total would’ve been lesser had the Indians not dropped as many as 7 catches after being asked to bowl first.

Among the dropped Aussie batters, Phoebe Litchfield was the luckiest who was given three chances to survive. Team India dropped her on the scores of 0, 10 and 16. The left-hand batter made the most of them and smashed 63 runs off 98 balls.

Next Aussie batter in the fray was tail-ender Alana King who went on to score a 17-ball 26 after getting dropped multiple times.

Here’s a detailed list of India’s dropped catches

1st Drop: Amanjot Kaur dropped Phoebe Litchfield off Renuka Singh’s bowling at mid-off on just the second ball of the Australian innings.

2nd Drop: Litchfield was dropped again by Smriti Mandhana off Renuka’s bowling at mid-off on the final delivery of the 5th over.

3rd Drop: Yastika Bhatia drops Litchfield at first slip off Pooja Vastrakar’s bowling in the 8th over (7.3)

4th Drop: Sneh Rana missed a caught and bowled opportunity to get rid of Ellyse Perry in the 17th over (16.5)

5th Drop: Mandhana dropped another, this time Annabel Sutherland at mid-wicket off Deepti Sharma’s bowling in the 44th over

6th Drop: Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur gave life to Alana King in the 48th over off Vastrakar’s bowling

7th Drop: In the 49th over, Sharma dropped King at deep mid-wicket off Renuka’s bowling.

“Dropped catches – Part of the game”

Captain Kaur defended her teammates for dropping catches in the game which eventually took a massive toll on them. Speaking at the post-match presentation, she said dropping catches is a part of the game.

“Dropped catches are part of the game. We are playing under a lot of heat. It’s always important how we bounce back. We keep telling the bowlers they’re doing a great job and that we’re trying our best to support them,” Harmanpreet said at the post-match presentation.

Australia too made the same blunder

The visitors were a tad bit sloppy on the field on Saturday, putting down 4 catches against India. However, the Aussies managed to bounce back and thump India by 3 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series.

Australia’s drops:

1st Drop: Litchfield dropped Ghosh at first slip off Darcie Brown’s bowling in the 8th over

2nd Drop: Beth Mooney put down the catch of Jemimah Rodrigues at mid-wicket off Tahlia McGrath’s bowling in the 20th over.

3rd Drop: Ghosh was dropped again, this time by Annabel Sutherland at long off Alana King’s bowling in the 27th over

4th Drop: Shreyanka Patil was dropped by McGrath in the final over at covers off Sutherland’s bowling.
