Bollywood actor Akash Dhar, known for his roles in films like Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas and Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, is riding high on the success of his latest film, Gadar 2. In an exclusive chat with News18, Dhar talked about his experience of working with Sunny Deol and how he held his own in the film. Dhar plays the key character of Major Bhargav in Gadar 2 and has garnered praise for his performance. Being a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, the expectations were sky-high, but the film has broken many records at the box office.
Speaking of how he landed the role, Akash said that director Anil Sharma had seen his work in Gunjan Saxena biopic and chose him for the role. Working with Sunny Deol, he said, was an amazing experience. “Unfortunately, I couldn’t work with Ameesha Patel because all my scenes were with Sunny Deol. It was such a privilege to work with him. We have worked together in Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, too, in the capacity of a director and actor. Since we had worked together earlier, we already had a lovely equation with each other. But, we hadn’t met before the shoot of Gadar 2,” he recalled.
The duo an intense scene alongside each other, and Sunny didn’t know that Akash was playing the part of Major Bhargav. “When we faced each other at the shoot, the intensity from his face vanished! He smiled and said to me, ‘Arre, tu?’” The ice broke right there and he made me feel very comfortable. Unlike his image in films, he’s actually a very soft-spoken guy. He’s also very cordial and sweet to work with. As a director, he had a lot of clarity, patience, and as a co-actor, he made sure the environment was comfortable for all the actors to give their best. The fact that I got to do all the fight scenes alongside Sunny Deol is a big thing for me,” said Akash.
On being asked how he holds his own in films that star big names, he said, “I really don’t think too much about it. If the part excites me, if there’s something for me to do in the film, then I don’t worry about who all are there in the film. As an actor, I have the confidence in me to pull off a role, no matter who’s pitted against me. That’s my faith in my craft.”
