K-dramas often witness fluctuations in ratings after their initial episodes, due to which many series see a dip in viewers in the following episodes. However, JTBC’s latest drama, Strong Girl Namsoon, has challenged this trend, as the series featuring Lee Yoo-mi has impressed the viewers. This show, which premiered on October 7, seems determined to surpass the previous records set by its predecessor, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon. According to Nielsen Korea, the second episode achieved an average nationwide rating of 6.1 per cent, a significant jump from the pilot’s 4.3 per cent rating the previous night. This strong start suggests a promising future for Strong Girl Namsoon.
Interestingly, the latest series surpassed the 3.8 per cent rating set by its predecessor in 2017. This humorous spin-off series revolves around three generations of women gifted with extraordinary strength as they investigate drug-related crimes happening in the Gangnam region, Seoul. Lee, playing the titular character, has a unique charm and incredible physical ability. In an interesting turn of events, her character is shown visiting South Korea’s capital city from Mongolia, with a mission to reunite with her parents.
Meanwhile, the final matches of the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games might have impacted the ratings of Strong Girl Namsoon’s episode 1. While other dramas were delayed or cancelled due to the popularity of the Asian Games. Despite these factors, the show managed to make a strong debut and stood out as other competing programs like The Escape of the Seven, Live Your Own Life and Arthdal Chronicles 2 were on a break for the evening.
KBS 2TV’s Live Your Own Life made a dominant return after a weeklong break, as it secured the top spot in ratings. Its fifth episode achieved an average nationwide rating of 13.7 per cent, making it the most-watched program on Sunday. Meanwhile, tvN’s Arthdal Chronicles 2 also experienced a ratings boost after a two-week hiatus. The latest episode of this fantasy drama achieved an average nationwide rating of 3.6 per cent.
Strong Girl Namsoon features a talented cast, including Lee Yoo-mi, Kim Jung-eun, Kim Hae-sook, Ong Seong-wu, and Byeon Woo-seok, each bringing this humorous series to life with their acting skills. The excitement was further escalated by special appearances from Park Bo-young and Park Hyung-sik, who also starred in Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.
