Amazon Prime Video has come up with a romantic comedy that has actor Camila Mendes of Riverdale in the lead role. The film features Mendes as Ana Santos, an art industry beginner who gets to work with the industry’s top brass Claire Dupont, played by Marisa Tomei. Ana is committed to making her way up the art world but her plans are interrupted after she meets an English bachelor named Will (Archie Renaux) as she gets ‘upgraded’ to a business class seat on her flight to London. In a bid to impress Will, Ana introduces herself as the director of an art company and soon her lies snowball. The movie will examine how Ana manages her career and budding romance as she deals with the consequences of her lies.
On Tuesday, Amazon Prime Video posted the film’s trailer on YouTube. The film will be released on February 9, 2024. It is directed by actor Carlson Young. The film is written by screenwriters Christine Lenig, Luke Spencer Roberts, and Justin Matthews.
So far Upgraded trailer has over two lakh views. Commenting on it, a YouTube user wrote, “Glad to see both Camila doing more comedies after Do Revenge and also Archie doing rom-coms!!" Another person wrote, “I can’t believe that Camila is gonna be in a new prime movie after seven years of being in Riverdale."
For Mendes, this film comes after the conclusion of the popular show Riverdale in which she played Veronica Lodge. Mendes is also going to star in Música, another romantic comedy film by Amazon Prime Video. It is scheduled to be released on April 4, 2024.
Archie Renaux has previously worked in the BBC One miniseries Gold Digger in 2019 and the Netflix fantasy show Shadow and Bone which ran for two seasons in 2021 and 2023. Renaux will also be seen in Alien: Romulus, an upcoming American science fiction horror film. It will be theatrically released on August 16, 2024, by 20th Century Studios.
Both Mendes and Renaux have done rom-coms before. Last year Renaux played the lead role in The Other Zoey, a romantic comedy directed by Sara Zandieh. It saw a limited theatrical release on October 20, 2023, and was later streamed on Amazon Prime Video. Mendes has previously acted in the 2018 film The New Romantic and the 2019 Netflix film The Perfect Date.
