The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved the list of medical colleges granted consent or renewal for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) seats by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) for the academic year 2023-24. The NMC has released a list of over 1200 medical colleges along with the number of approved seats each institution holds.
The NMC-issued listing includes in-depth details about the approved Medical Colleges. The document contains the name of the college, state, course, application type, and the number of approved UG and PG seats as sanctioned by the MARB. The list can be checked on the NMC website – nmc.org.in.

Notably, in August, NMC had warned that some colleges had received fake letters of permission to increase MBBS and PG seats. Later, the commission issued a notification and clarified that the MARB has not issued letters of renewal to some of the medical colleges that claimed to have received permission, The Indian Express reported.
Fake or forged letters were issued to several medical colleges. The list included Meenakshi Medical College, Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, Santhiram Medical College, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, GR Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Karnataka, and GSL Medical College, Rajahmundry, according to reports.
