Team India captain Rohit Sharma opened up on his partnership with head coach Rahul Dravid and what he and Virat Kohli generally talk about each other’s batting. Rohit took over the captaincy charge from Kohli when Rahul Dravid became India’s head coach after the 2021 T20 World Cup. He was earlier appointed the white-ball captain but after Kohli decided to relinquish the Test captaincy post after the South Africa tour in 2022, the selectors decided to hand over the red-ball leadership to Rohit too.
In the tenure thus far, India reached the semifinal of 2022 T20 World Cup and the final of World Test Championship this year.

Talking about his partnership with Dravid, Rohit was in full praise of his coach and said he respects him a lot as a person first then as a cricketer.
“I have a huge respect for him (Rahul Dravid) for what he is as a person firstly and then obviously as a cricketer. It’s because you need to be a good person first and then a cricketer, footballer, doctor, etc.,” Rohit said during an interview with cricket journalist Vimal Kumar’s YouTube channel.
Rohit, who made his international debut under Dravid’s captaincy, revealed what is his first rule as a head coach.
“I made my debut under him, though, I didn’t play long. He doesn’t like any communication gap with any player or support staff. His first rule is to communicate,” he added.
“We have an open relationship where we keep discussing things about the players or tactics,” he asserted.

The swashbuckling opener further talked about what he and Kohli usually discuss both on and off the field as said they discuss about the opposition players when they meet series to series.
“During the batting, it’s about what the bowler is bowling and the conditions. When we meet series to series, we discuss regarding the opposition players. What to do and what not,” he added.
The next three months (including September) are going to be extremely crucial for Rohit as a captain with the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup 2023. India have entered the Super 4 round of the continental tournament and it will be crucial for them to lift the trophy to boost their morale ahead of WC which will be played in India. It’s been a decade since India last won an ICC trophy as they last won the 2013 Champions Trophy in England.
