WATCH | India Welcomes the World to Delhi as PM Modi Gears Up to Chair 18th G20 Summit

The government on Friday released a video of world leaders arriving in New Delhi for the historic G20 Summit.

US President Joe Biden, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa, Yoon Suk Yeol, President of the Republic of Korea, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey, have arrived in New Delhi to attend the G20 Summit.

Several cabinet and union ministers were present at the Indira Gandhi International Airport to receive the heads of state.

Leaders of Mexico and Argentina are yet to arrive. The Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, the UAE, Oman, Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, and Nigeria are participating as guest nations in this year’s summit.

“India is delighted to host the 18th G20 Summit on 09-10 September 2023 at New Delhi’s iconic Bharat Mandapam. This is the first ever G20 Summit being hosted by India. I look forward to productive discussions with world leaders over the next two days,” PM Modi said in a post on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.

“During the G20 Summit, I will be chairing Sessions on ‘One Earth’, ‘One Family’ and ‘One Future’, covering a range of issues of prime concern to the world community. These include furthering strong, sustainable, inclusive and balanced growth,” he further added.

World leaders like Rishi Sunak and UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres lauded India’s actions and achievements as G20 President.

“India’s presidency at the G20 will help lead to the kind of transformative change our world so desperately needs in line with the repeated commitment that India to act on the behalf of Global South and its determination to pursue the development agenda,” Guterres said.

Rishi Sunak highlighted that India’s G20 Presidency has been a huge success and said New Delhi is the right host at the right time to hold the summit.

“G20 has been a huge success for India. India is the right country at the right time to be hosting this,” Sunak was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
