'You Guys Were in the AC, I Was..': Mohammed Shami Stumps Broadcasters After Fifer vs Australia in 1st ODI
Mohammed Shami made a rather tongue in cheek remark leaving the broadcasters stumped after registering his best ODI figures of 5/51 vs Australia in first ODI at Mohali

Mohammed Shami registered his career-best ODI figures as he picked up a five-wicket haul against Australia in the first ODI of the series at Mohali. Indian captain KL Rahul invited the Aussies to bat first, but they were bundled out for 276 after Shami showcased his class with the new and the old ball as well.

In his ten-over spell, Shami conceded just 51 runs picking the crucial wickets of Mitchell Marsh, and Steven Smith before he cleaned up Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Short and Sean Abbott to register his best figures in the format.

This, after the veteran pacer was left out of India’s playing XI for crucial matches during the Asia Cup 2023 however Shami reponded with a statement of intent.

Speaking to the broadcasters after his historic effort in Mohali, the Indian pacer made a rather tongue-in-cheek remark when quizzed about the weather.

There was plenty of heat at the venue, the temperature was near around the 30 degrees mark, but felt much higher as the Indian players were seen struggling due to the conditions. Shami, Shardul Thakur, and Jasprit Bumrah all needed breaks before the trio completed their respective spells.

When quizzed about the heat, Shami sarcastically said that the broadcasters themselves were sitting in the ACs, while he was out there grilling himself under the sun.

“You guys were in the AC, I was there out in the heat. There was not much the fast bowlers were getting out of the wicket so the slower deliveries were a good option to turn to. If they land in the right areas, the results can really go in your favour. It’s important to mix things up. The team needed and it’s good feeling to get wickets when you’re putting in so much effort. It’s good for the team and your own confidence,” said Shami.

Just as the Indian players were making their way off the field, Siraj came out to hug Shami, and when the veteran was quizzed about his fellow pacer’s success in the Asia Cup final, the 33-year-old said that they both enjoy each other’s triumphs.

“We enjoy each other’s success a lot. We have spent the last so many years together and this is a result of the same. When you operate with the new ball, you have the responsibility of finding the right line and length, set the tempo and that’s exactly what I wanted to do today,” added the Bengal speedster.
